From 18th to 24th August, Franklin House (413-419 Hobart Road, Youngtown) will host a Sogetsu ikebana exhibition. There will be seven Sogetsu artists involved in the exhibition (two from Tasmania and five from Victoria). The exhibition will include Sogetsu ikebana style arrangements throughout the House and a bamboo installation in the garden. Events include a guided house tour as well as demonstrations and workshops. In order to manage visitor numbers the National Trust, which owns Franklin House, is requiring all visitors to book ahead of their visit.
This year’s exhibition, themed “Branch and Bloom,” includes formal and freestyle arrangements in the Sogetsu ikebana style. These arrangements have been created by seven Sogetsu School artists, including students and teachers with a range of experience - including one who has achieved the highest Sogetsu teacher qualification (Riji) outside of Japan. Arrangements will be featured throughout the house and there will be an ikebana installation in the garden. Seasonal materials from the Franklin House gardens have been used wherever possible and unconventional materials will be used in some exhibits.
Information about the exhibition, related events and bookings is available at the following address: https://nationaltrusttas.rezdy.com/catalog/49478/franklin-house
Bookings are essential for your visit to the exhibition and places for demonstrations and workshops are limited, so please book early.
We hope you can visit and see the work of these artists in a beautiful heritage setting.
